2025 Municipal Election

The Town of Redwater’s municipal election is coming up on Monday, October 20, 2025. This election will fill the following positions:

  • 1 Mayor: David McRae (elected by acclamation)
  • 6 Councillors

Nominations closed at noon on September 22, 2025.  All candidates have been officially nominated. Voting is at-large, meaning each elected official represents the entire Town.

There will be a joint election with Sturgeon Public Schools to elect a trustee for the Redwater/Coronado ward.  More info can be found on their website HERE

Advance Vote

Election Day

  • October 20, 2025 10 am – 8 pm at Pembina Place 4944 53 St.

Voter Eligibility:
 You are eligible to vote if:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are a Canadian citizen
  • You reside in Alberta, and your usual place of residence is located in the Town of Redwater on election day

Registration:

  • All voters must be on the Permanent Electors Registry (PER).
    1. The PER is a mandatory requirement under the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and is a record of eligible voters that municipalities must establish and maintain.
  • Check Voterlink to confirm your registration and that your information is up to date. (deadline of Sept 15, 2025)  
  • If you are not registered or information is out of date, you will be added or updated at the time of the election.

  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Canadian Forces ID card
  • Veterans Health Care ID card
  • First Nation Membership card
  • Métis Nation of Alberta Citizenship card

Other Ways to Verify Address and Identification

Vouching

  • You can only vouch for an electors address; you cannot vouch for their identity.  Identification validating their identity is required.
  • To vouch for someone you must be on the Permanent Electors Register
  • You cannot vouch for more than one person unless they are all in the same household.
  • A scrutineer cannot vouch for anyone.
