The Town of Redwater has initiated the process of reviewing and updating its Municipal Development Plan to ensure it is able to continue to effectively guide the development and evolution of the municipality as well as reflect the future aspirations of the public.
A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is the central guiding document for a municipality. It establishes and communicates the long-term desired land use framework for a community, and serves as a high-level blueprint showing how a community is planned to change over time and the shape it will take in the future. A Municipal Development Plan also provides direction related to the growth, urban form, infrastructure, investments, the environment and social initiatives.
Project Timeline
The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) update began in April of this year and will run until the end of the year. The project consists of three phases and each phase will have unique opportunities to get involved!
Phase 1 of the project focused on collaborating with the community to establish a vision for the MDP as well as key principles that will guide the town’s evolution.
Phase 2 of the project involved developing a first draft of the MDP, utilizing feedback received in phase 1 to develop a policy and implementation framework for the Plan.
The project is currently in Phase 3, which focuses on presenting initial drafts of the MDP to the community for feedback, which will be used to refine and revise the MDP prior to the Plan being submitted to council for approval.
